Carla Makes
Performance

I create and perform work that thrives in the moment, improvising, playing games, and exploring character. Often I perform as an exaggerated version of myself, whether in drag, clown, or ensemble improvisation, and frequently switch between multiple personas in a single show.

Alongside this, I also perform and direct scripted work, including full-length plays, stand-up, and voice acting. My BA in English, visual imagination, and drama school training mean I bring both rigour and playfulness to a rehearsal room, shaping performance collaboratively and thoughtfully.
Highlights

Snip, Whisper, Wail (WIP)

In this uncanny salon, scissors gleam and hair tells stories of mischief, fate, and small-town secrets. A solo show blending clown, working class folklore, and intimate storytelling, where humour meets the strange and slightly unsettling.

The Ministry of Unplanned Occurrences
I am artistic director of The Ministry of Unplanned Occurrences. We make 'moment-specific' theatre – shows which are unscripted, live and playful. Generally, our shows are naturalistic with a touch of magical reality. All of them are linked by way we play with light and shade, comedy and drama, and our love of live and in-the-moment storytelling.

//SEED

// SEED was conceived during the 2020 UK lockdown. It is a one-to-one encounter across the video chat platform Zoom where both the performer and participant share the task of planting seeds, while sharing a semi-scripted conversation.

Max Velocity Takes Up Space

Max Velocity is a one-man, one-hour, interactive, intergalactic planetary comedy experience. It included the following: mullet-based humour, non-mullet-based music, and Max’s unconventional approach to astronaut training. Max Velocity has performed at Camden People's Theatre, Cambridge Junction, and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

Cabaret and alternative comedy

I regularly perform at alternative comedy shows debuting weird and wonderful clown and bouffon characters.
