Carla Makes
Production Design & Dramaturgy

When you come to one of my shows, you'll likely be greeted in character. This moment of arrival is intentional, establishing the audience's relationship to the world of the piece from the very beginning. You may also encounter a carefully designed environment to explore, inhabit, or observe.
When creating work for The Ministry of Unplanned Occurrences, we spend time researching and playing within the social, physical, and narrative worlds of each piece. We explore thematic motifs, the characters who inhabit these worlds, and the relationships between them. As Artistic Director, I lead this research and design structured exercises that provide a framework for experimentation, collaboration, and playful exploration.
